What is a Young Carer?

A young carer is someone aged 5 to 18 who cares for a friend or family member, who cannot cope without their support due to:

  • Illness,
  • Disability.
  • Mental health needs, or
  • Substance dependency.

Siblings of a child with a significant mental or physical illness (Sibs)

The sibling of a child with a significant mental or physical illness is referred to as a sibling carer. They are the brothers or sisters of someone with a lifelong disability or illness.

If you believe you are a Sib and/or Young Carer:

  • Let your form tutor, teacher or Head of Year know.
  • Visit the Pupil Support Hub (located in the LC) and a have a chat with Ms Reynolds, Ms Place or any of the other Learning Mentors.
  • Send us an email to lets us know.
  • Send us a message on the SHARP system.
